HTC Corp has officially joined the race for the best fingerprint scanning feature to challenge Apple Inc’s iPhone 5S. The Taiwanese smartphone maker has launched a 5.9-inch handset dubbed as HTC One Max. The built-in scanner could also be used to lock as well as unlock the handset’s screen.
The Touch ID is strategically located at the back of the phone. That makes it different from the finger scanning tool of iPhone 5S, which is integrated into its Home button. But HTC One Max’s fingerprint sensor technology could possibly launch three apps simultaneously through assigning different fingers to each.
The new smartphone has many other outstanding features. If all of those would be considered, it would be safer to assume though that HTC One Max is competing against other phablets, particularly Sony’s 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra and Samsung’s 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega.
The new HTC smartphone would be available globally beginning this week or next week. It would be rolled out in the US before December. The unit would come in Glacial Silver design and color. Pricing scheme is yet to be released.
The 5.9-inch display is full HD with a resolution of 1080 pixels. The phone operates on quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. It runs on Android 4.3. BlinkFeed and HTC Sense 5.5 facilitate useful and popular apps to the phone’s forefront. Customized content could include data from Instagram. Google+, and Tumblr. Users could also download 120 articles so those could be viewed even offline.
The camera is identical to the one found in HTC One. The front-facing lens has 2.1 megapixels of resolution, making it ideal for video chats and selfies. HTC Zoe enables users to take high-resolution pictures that could come alive in 3-second snippets.
HTC One Max noticeably boasts of the HTC BoomSound along with dual speakers facing the front. This is logical as the company has recently severed ties with Beats. But HTC asserts that its own BoomSound is much better.
The smartphone is available in 16GB and 32 GB versions. On top of those, storage could be further expanded through the micro SD card slot. The phone also comes equipped with up to 50GB of Google Drive storage for free. It also supports technologies like Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA for PC or TV streaming, micro-USB 2.0 port, and NFC. What’s more? The handset could also transform into a remote control device.
