Here are the hottest updates on “How to Get Away with Murder” season 2, Netflix streaming rights, and Viola Davis winning an Emmy.
Viola Davis is the first African-American actress to won an Emmy for best lead actress in a drama series this year. She played tough, impulsive criminal law professor Annalise Keating in the series “How to Get Away with Murder.”
Los Angeles Times wrote that her acceptance speech at the Emmys was unforgettable, as she pointed out the lack of diversity on the small screen. “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity,” she said.
However, her words did not sit well on white actress Nancy Lee Grahn from “General Hospital” who reacted to Davis’ words and took to Twitter, saying that the event was not a “venue [for] racial opportunity” and that Viola Davis “has never been discriminated against.”
Grahn’s tweets irked social media users who quickly criticized her, prompting the actress to apologize and explain what she said with several tweets.
“I never expected every black Twitterer to attack … and after being on my knees have no [forgiveness],” she wrote in her series of tweets. She also said that she felt “betrayed” by people she “would’ve marched for.”
Her words however were not received well.
Meanwhile, Viola Davis will be back for season 2 of “How to Get Away with Murder” to reprise her role as Annalise, after the show’s first season became a huge hit on TV.
The killing of Rebecca Sutter will probably outshine other plot lines for the second season. The plots might focus on the characters’ relationships including Frank and Annalise’s. Frank is unmistakably loyal to Annalise but it was not known what binds him to her. Did Frank and Annalise have an affair in the past and he acted due to his former feelings for her?
The strained friendship of Bonnie and Annalise will also be given emphasis; thus it would be possible that their history as friends will crop up on Season 2.
After finding out that his lover Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) is HIV-positive, Conrad (Jack Falahee) will have major changes in his life. Whether he breaks up with Oliver or stick with him, Conrad will make a life-changing decision that will surprise the fans.
As to the possibility of Rebecca as a twin despite no solid evidence seen yet, that’s another story fans should look forward to. The show will be back on ABC on September 24, Thursday.
Hollywood Reporter reported earlier that streaming device Netflix has gained exclusive worldwide streaming rights for the legal thriller’s season 1. “How to Get Away With Murder” started streaming in Netflix on September 18 in the Canada, Latin America, and the United States.
