While #HillaryHealth was trending on Twitter, Apple News and major news sites, nothing about Hillary Clinton was trending on Facebook. Moreover, Facebook’s own numbers showed that the hashtag should be trending.
At the same time, “Flight 93” was trending, while Facebook search showed that a thousand people were talking about that topic. Although, a search for #HillaryHealth showed that the topic wasn’t trending, despite the fact that almost 100K people were talking about that on Facebook. It was also noticed that more than 50,000 people were talking about #HillaryFaint, however, that topic was not trending, either.
According to Observer, Facebook has got a history of censoring conservative voices. The social networking site also censored any content that is critical of Hillary Clinton. Although, spokespeople from Facebook had claimed that the company had never changed their algorithms to favor any candidate, but there is indisputable evidence which showed the contrary.
Last week, it announced by, Facebook’s co-founder, Dustin Muskovitz, that he was donating $20 million to Democratic groups aiding the former First Lady to help her defeat Donald Trump. Along with this there was a greater revelation, where multiple former Facebook employees confessed that they were ordered to curtail stories of interest to conservative readers from their “trending” section.
These employees were instructed to substitute the suppressed ones with “selected stories,” even if they were not trending or too popular enough to be included in that section.
After the revelation came out in the open, Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg and his team met with a group of conservatives. In response to the disclosure, he and his teammates claimed that it would be quite difficult to instigate bias into their “trending topics” section. However, the most recent censorship of the Democratic presidential candidate’s health suggested otherwise.
YouTube had also been accused of censoring videos, channels or personal accounts by individuals. There had been claims that many videos posted on YouTube had been curtailed from making money through the company’s ad services, said Info Wars.
Philip DeFranco, well known YouTube host, voiced his concern about the policy. He had claimed that almost a dozen of his videos had been “flagged as inappropriate for advertising, including one dinged for ‘graphic content or excessive strong language’.”
“YouTube Is Shutting Down My Channel and I’m Not Sure What To Do,” is a video, in which DeFranco described YouTube’s policy as censorship with a different name. As users are touching on videos, which the company considered to be controversial, ended up losing money.
“If you do this on the regular, and you have no advertising,” DeFranco said.
“It’s not sustainable.”
It had been reported that Hillary Clinton had returned to the campaign trail on Thursday after three days of rejuvenating at home from pneumonia, said New York Times.
