No sweet messages, long-stemmed roses, dark chocolates, nor expensive jewelry wrapped in fancy ribbons for singer-actress Hilary Duff. In the coming holiday of hearts, while the rest of the planet celebrates love and passion, a different celebration is up for newly-divorced Hilary Duff.
After a stressful process, the ex-couple have officially ended their marriage. Duff and ex-husband, ex-NHL player Mike Comrie, began dating in 2007 and tied the knot in 2010. Two years and 10 seasons after they got married, Comrie decided to leave hockey for good. He retired in 2012. Ensuring that each of their assets remain intact if they separate ways, they signed a prenup agreement, little did they know that this piece of paper would be useful in their split.
Earlier than January 2013, the filed date of separation, the ex-couple consistently went through irreconcilable issues. The divorce was triggered by Mike’s wild night in Beverly Hills. Hilary Duff asked for custody over her 3-year-old son and halfheartedly allowed Mike visitation rights. Duff worried that Comrie’s intense partying, womanizing, and drinking would gravely affect the upbringing of their child.
According to Fox News, a Los Angeles judge finalized their divorce on January 28. Certain arrangements and settlements are needed for the benefit of both parties.
TMZ made a detailed report on the finalized divorce case between Duff and Comrie; the documents state that Hilary must pay Comrie over $2 million to have their financial split. While they get joint custody of their son, Luca, they’re not entitled to spousal support. Still, Hilary gets to have their Beverly Hills mansion and other properties while Comrie can keep his 2014 Bentley car, 2013 Mercedes G-Class SUV, and a few jewelry.
No further reports regarding their plans on splitting custody of their son, as well as how the young boy reacts to the situation. Meanwhile, in her interview with Ellen Degeneres earlier this year, Hilary Duff talked about their son, Luca. “We have such a great kid and we’re both so obsessed with him. We are good friends and we laugh a lot. And we have a great communication and we share pictures when one is not with Luca. He’s great, we are great, and we keep on trucking.”
On Hilary’s part, no trails of sadness and regret can be seen on her face. The “Lizzie McGuire” star only shares happiness by posting Snapchats of her and Luca.
