Samsung Gear S2, which is unveiled ahead of IFA 2015, is Samsung’s new smartwatch. The smartwatch displayed at the tech show in Berlin is Samsung’s 17th smartwatch developed by far.
Samsung Gear S2, which will be available for retail sale in the U.S. in October, looks stylish with a circular screen. Two different models were presented at the show; the one with a modern touch and minimal bends is Samsung Gear S2. Samsung Gear S2 Classic is slightly towards the traditional side with a black body and a leather band, according to CNET.
Both watches come with a rotating bezel that helps in navigating features and apps available on the device. Gear S2 will be available in two versions; the advanced version will be having built-in 3G cellular capability.
Phones compatible with Samsung Gear S2
Samsung Gear S2 watches are friendly with phones that run Android software. The smartwatches, though much compatible with Android phones owned by the company, is supported by other Android models as well. For the watch to be connected with other Android model phones, the devices should be operating Android 4.4 or higher.
The smartwatches are not compatible with iPhone or any devices running iOS. Newly released Samsung wearables can have a slight disadvantage in not being able to work with Apple. Because a Google app released lately makes many other Android devices compatible with iOS, according to USA Today.
Young-Hee Lee, head of marketing for Samsung’s mobile business, said in Berlin’s Tempodrome that “We found our inspiration in a simple, perfect shape, a circle, the symbol of wholeness, focus, revolution and completion,” He also added that “The circle is intuitive. As your body knows instinctively, a circle is functional. With every turn, your life gets better.”
