Michelle Williams has opened up about the difficulties raising Matilda, her 11-year-old daughter. The single mother has been raising Matilda herself since the death of Heath Ledger.
Health Ledger, known for his epic role as the Joker in “The Dark Knight,” passed away in 2008.
Williams met Ledger on the set of “Brokeback Mountain,” a film that got them Oscar nominations. The two began dating afterwards.
Michelle Williams Misses Heath Ledger?
According to the Huffington Post, in an interview with Porter magazine, Michelle shared her struggles for the Incredible Women issue. The single mother claimed in the interview that she has been very sensitive about her dating life, placing a lot of focus on Matilda.
Talking to the magazine about her difficulties, Michelle shared what was hitherto unknown. “In all honesty, for pretty much everything else, I feel like I’m a believer in not fighting circumstances, accepting where you are and where you’ve been. In pretty much all senses but one.”
Michelle also said, “I would be able to go totally down that line of thinking were it not for Matilda not having her dad. You know that’s just something that doesn’t … I mean, it just won’t ever be right.”
Michelle Williams struggles to raise Matilda
An emotional Michelle revealed, “I watched [Matilda] warm in the sun, in her swimsuit, get on her bicycle and smile and wave as she rode off to go meet her friends. I went back into the house and sobbed because of this incredibly simple moment ― common everyday happiness. I really felt like in that moment, like wow, we’ve done it.”
She ended on a high note by mentioning, “Not only are we OK, she’s happy. Life has brought us to a place that’s not just surviving, but thriving.”
The actress gave birth to her daughter on October 2005. They named her Matilda Rose Ledger. By September 2007, the couple was reported to have put an end to their relationship.
Ledger had a cardiac arrest and passed away in New York. It was after his death that the Australian actor received the Oscar for his role in “The Dark Knight” as the Joker.
