A Harry Potter sequel, which dwells on the life of Harry, Hermione and Ron after Hogwarts, is being contemplated by director Chris Columbus. It would not be the likes of the Harry Potter spin-off movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them,” nor the likes of the play “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child,” the director said.
Harry Potter Sequel will focus on Harry, Hermione and Ron
Speaking with the Entertainment Weekly Radio, Columbus revealed that he is thinking about directing a Harry Potter sequel that will revisit the present time Harry, Hermione and Ron.
“I would love to go back and do another one,” Columbus told EW’s radio anchors.
“Not Fantastic Beasts as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I’m just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There’s 18 years there of great Harry Potter stories,” he said.
Asked if he had already pitch the idea to author J.K. Rowling, Columbus admitted that he feels gutless to do so.
“I don’t have the courage to actually mention that to her because I have such respect for her. She should do what she wants to do, but I really would love to know what’s in her head about those missing years,” he said.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”
It seemed that the sequel is still far into the future. Harry Potter fans meanwhile would have to wait for the Harry Potter spinoff movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them,” set for worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on Nov 18, 2016. The Warner Bros film will star Katherine Waterston opposite Eddie Redmayne.
Meanwhile, the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” will open at the Palace Theater in London in the summer of 2016. The play explores the backstory of Harry’s parents before they ended up dead in the hands of Lord Voldemort. The story’s plot tells how James and Lily Potter met at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, how they became couple until they were murdered on the night of Oct 31, 1981.
