Marvel has finally released the full trailer of its upcoming motion picture ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Anyone would agree after watching the teasers and the trailer that the movie is different from all the recent movies released by the studio. It is a crack at making viewers laugh through several amusing elements that were assembled for the film.
The comic book adaptation is obviously focused on comedy. Raccoon power is in the air and it surely will make this movie worth watching when it hits theaters. It may not be as serious as ‘The Avengers’ or ‘X-Men,’ but based on the trailer, it would be equally fun and exciting.
The trailer lasts two-and-a-half minutes and premiered in the US during an episode of the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ That came after the previous release of several stills from the same movie. A 10-second teaser version also preceded the release of the full trailer.
So far, reactions from Marvel fans are mostly positive. But one basic element of the trailer stands out: the raccoon with big guns. That serves as the main differentiating factor that makes us all wonder what else is in store within this action-packed, yet light and funny movie.
The plot is somehow described in the short trailer. Peter Quill, a brash adventurer, finds himself an object of an amusing bounty hunt after he stole a mysterious orb. Ronan the Accuser is a powerful villain that hunts him down due to his ambition to take that orb for his self. With this simple plot, the whole universe is suddenly threatened, would you believe?
That’s not the fun part yet. Quill makes a truce with what seems to be a quarter of misfits to protect the orb. He realized that he must do whatever it takes to protect the orb, after discovering its power and the possible risks it may incur to the whole cosmos.
Chris Pratt, fresh from the box-office success of ‘The Lego Movie,’ stars as Quill. The other characters definitely made a mark in the trailer: Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket, the loveable and cute raccoon who is also a skilled marksman (voiced over by Bradley Cooper). Karen Gillan also played a part as the nefarious character Nebula.
Some observers also noted that premiering the trailer in the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ was already a statement on its own. That same night, the talkshow had a new competitor as Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Tonight Show’ moved to the same timeslot, reportedly with Lady Gaga on its guest list. The trailer is now accessible through YouTube. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ hits theaters on August 1.
