All the 60’s-70’s kids are feeling victorious over the comeback of hit musical “Grease.” Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, “Grease” definitely stormed the theaters way back then.
Three decades later, Fox decided to re-imagine and relive the phenomenal 70’s movie. Although starred by an entirely different cast, “Grease: Live!” asked for blessings and approval from the original characters, most especially from John Travolta.
“You’re The One That I Want,” “Grease Lightnin’,” “Summer Nights,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Beauty School Drop Out” and “We Go Together” are some of the memorable songs produced by this musical. Some of these songs are still widely used up to this day.
John Travolta played the lead character Danny Zuko with Olivia Newton John (Sandy), Stockard Channing (Rizzo), Jeff Conaway (Kenickie), Michael Tucci (Sonny), Barry Pearl (Doody), Kelly Ward (Putzie), Didi Conn (Frenchy), and many others who magically brought the movie to success when it was released in 1978.
In a report made by E!, while on the red carpet of his newest project, FX drama’s “The People vs. OJ Simpson,” John Travolta shared his insights regarding “Grease: Live!” Travolta said, “Every day that show is done by some school, some college, some New York production, some college, so it’s a very familiar show to be done a lot. The difference is it’s being done on national television, live, and that’s exciting.”
Travolta also shared that he doesn’t know if he could do what the “Grease: Live!” cast would do, acting and singing for live TV. “I take my hat off to them for it,” adds the courteous 61-year-old actor.
On the other hand, while John Travolta recognizes that “Grease: Live!” will be fairly similar to that of the original film, the lyrics to most of the songs in this live TV musical will be altered. Vanity Fair shared that albeit many similarities from the 1978 version will be observed in “Grease: Live!,” producers and sponsors to this project asked that the language be toned down.
The stars who gave life to this musical are Aaron Tveit (Danny Zuko), Julianne Hough (Sandy), Vanessa Hudgens (Betty Rizzo), Carlos PenaVega (Kenickie), Keke Palmer (Marty), Carly Rae Jepsen (Frenchy), Eve Plumb (Mrs. Murdock), Jordan Fisher (Doody), and David Del Rio (Putzie). Celebrities like Mario Lopez and Jessie J also had special participation on the live musical.
Meanwhile, two of the original casts had cameo roles in “Grease: Live!” The original Frenchy and Doody will appear on Fox’s newest live project. “Grease: Live!” aired on Fox last Sunday, 7:00 p.m. ET, January 31.
