The perks of being a student get more amazing these days. Google, through its Apps for Education has announced a new scheme that would make them rave. The company is now offering unlimited cloud storage to students, free of charge. That’s right. That’s $0.
Yesterday, the giant technology firm made the surprise announcement. It unveiled a new Google Drive version that is specifically for students. It described the new product as an infinitely large and at the same time ultra secure bookbag. This Google drive for Education offer would be available to Google Apps for Education customers for free.
The offer includes limitless storage with 5TB of size limit per file. It also comes with access to the Google Apps Vault to cover users’ archiving requirements. The company said students no longer have to worry about space when they use cloud to their advantage,
No other worries especially about security
Logically, Google reiterated the security for Google Drive. It emphasized that all files that are uploaded would be encrypted while it travels from the device to the data centers of the company. It also is more secured even while at rest along the servers of Google.
In a statement, the company said it wants both students and educators to turn to Google Apps for Education to do more so they could focus on their learning experiences and efforts instead.
A host of other offers
This move is a follow up to Google’s unveiled Classroom product last May. This free tool is aimed at educators or teachers. It is part of the Google Apps for Education Suite that is aimed at making educators’ lives more organized and much easier especially when they use cloud. Apparently, Classroom is well integrated with Google drive for automatic organization of assignments into corresponding folders.
Just recently, Google also launched its Drive for Work. This, in turn, is aimed at businesses and professionals. Again, it offers unlimited cloud storage but not for free. At a minimal $10 monthly, it also comes with advanced audit reporting as well as security controls.
