Kevin Durant is the big acquisition of the Golden State Warriors from NBA Free Agency 2016, the same team that booted out his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Warriors went on to lose in the NBA Finals, bowing to the Cleveland Cavaliers. All that could change by next season with a multi-talented lineup thanks to the addition of the former NBA MVP.
Thunder should have been champions
But while that chapter has yet to be seen, NBA veteran Andre Iguodala offered an interesting take during an interview with the Breakfast Club. Iguodala talked about the loss to the Cavs, but surprisingly said that the Thunder should have been the NBA champions.
“Now that we got KD I can say it: (the Thunder) were the best team in the playoffs. They were better than us, they were better than Cleveland. They should have won a championship. They played us better than anyone. They had our number”
From a perspective, it carries a bit of a sour note for Iguodala. Considering the Warriors bungled a big 3-1 series edge and allowed the Cavs to register multiple NBA firsts, the revelation is likely to draw varying opinions from critics.
Andre Iguodala thinks highly of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving
This is not to say that Iguodala was not impressed with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. In fact he credited to be among the top NBA cagers to date. But as far as the best team is concerned, Iguodala felt that the Thunder deserved that fete.
Ironically, the Thunder held a similar 3-1 edge over the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. They managed to overhaul that deficit and enter the NBA Finals against Cleveland.
All of this hardly matters right now with the Warriors aiming to rebound from an almost perfect season. They did make history last season with their impressive regular season run but all that was doused with their inability to defend their title.
With Kevin Durant onboard, the Warriors look formidable and are obvious favorites to win it all this coming 2016-17 NBA season.
