‘Game Of Thrones’ Theory: Tommen Knows Who Poisoned Joffrey

“Game of Thrones” has always seen political backstabbing as a plot driver that can vastly change the course of the story. Now with the Lannister-Tyrell alliance slowly crumbling due to the Faith Militant, a new theory has emerged regarding the High Sparrow.

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead

According to TIME, after the conversation between Tommen and Cersei ended with the young king telling his mother a secret, everyone was eager to know the details. The information in question was disclosed by the High Sparrow to the king under conditions of strict confidentiality.

The information seemed very upsetting for Tommen, so much so that he could not bear to keep it a secret any longer. In the fourth episode, he proceeded to tell his mother, stating that he was not supposed to tell anyone about it.

Afterward, Cersei and Jaime head to the Small Council chambers where Kevan Lannister is discussing matters with Lady Olenna Tyrell. They brokered a deal to destroy the Faith Militant using Margaery as leverage since Lady Olenna wishes to prevent her from being humiliated like Cersei in the ‘Game of Thrones‘ season 5 finale.

According to a post on Reddit, what the High Sparrow told Tommen is information about the Tyrells’ involvement in Joffrey’s murder. Judging from his tears when he told his mother it was heartbreaking to know that the woman he loved had a hand in his brother’s death.

This could be the reason behind Cersei’s change of heart in her willingness to help the Tyrells. By letting the Tyrell army attack the Faith Militant they will be seen as the enemy of the people.

With the Lannister forces ordered by the king to stand down, it will be up to the common people to defend him. Whether the Tyrells succeed in eliminating him or not, it will still be a victory for Cersei.

She will watch as her enemies tear each other apart from within the safety of the Red Keep. She will be able to take revenge on the family who murdered her son and to the people who humiliated her.

Find out if the theory proves to be true in the next episode of “Game of Thrones.”
