“Game of Thrones” Season 6 episode 9 only focused on two storylines, Mereen and the North where both Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen fought in their respective battles. While for most it was nothing more than a conclusion for two long-standing conflicts, there might be more to it than meets the eye.
While the Mother of Dragons was roasting her enemies, the Bastard of Winterfell was busy getting his hands dirty, literally, fighting the Boltons to reclaim their home.
In the thick of battle, Jon Snow emerging from being trampled has been compared with Daenerys Targaryen being propped up by the liberated slaves of Yunkai.
According to The Independent, the “rebirthing” scene as director Miguel Sapochnik calls it has been compared with the scene from “Mhysa.” Daenerys Targaryen was raised up from a mass of people although in a less violent manner than Jon’s.
“Game of Thrones” fans interpreted this as a hint for a future Stark-Targaryen alliance in the final episodes of the series. The Mother of Dragons conquering the Seven Kingdoms with the Bastard of Winterfell by her side, a Song of Ice and Fire indeed.
For an episode to focus on these two was also interpreted by many as a hint at Jon Snow’s possible Targaryen heritage. Is the series telling viewers that when worse comes to worse; the show will boil down to these two.
The parallel between the two has always been a source of intrigue. Now that the whole Rhaegar + Lyanna = Jon theory has gained new steam any connection between them will be pointing to Lord Snow being a Targaryen.
The season finale titled Winds of Winter is also rumored to reveal something about Jon’s parentage. Perhaps Bran has gained control of Greensight that he comes back to the Tower of Joy to find out what his father saw.
