“Game of Thrones” is no doubt the one of the most popular TV shows to date and unfortunately the most pirated TV show to date. There is a certain “Spanish Spoiler” who has the ablity to post quite accurate spoilers 2 days before the screening! HBO now has enough.
HBO plans to stop this piracy by enlisting an anti-piracy partner and so far has gotten the results they wanted. TorrentFreak reported that the channel has taken a stand on those illegally downloading GOT from torrent sites. Since the season started IP-Echelon, HBO’s anti-piracy partner, has sent thousands of warnings to internet service providers telling them to take action against the pirates.
The warnings include the IP-addresses of those suspected of illegally downloading ‘Game of Thrones’ from torrent sites. It also asks the ISPs to remind those suspects of other means to legally view the popular series.
HBO’s efforts have garnered quick results when one of the biggest torrent sites, Kicka—torrents, lost the top 100 torrents of recent GOT episodes. While other seedy (pardon the pun) torrent sites have ignored the warnings large sites like the one mentioned above took action and removed torrents related to GOT.
According to Yahoo Australia, the channel’s stand on anti-piracy also took down a well known Youtube vlogger ‘Spanish Spoiler‘. The Spanish Spoiler has been posting spoilers from GOT 2 days before HBO even released them.
Despite posting a disclaimer saying he will not be publishing spoilers of upcoming episodes but instead post speculations and fan theories, he wasn’t safe. The ‘Spanish Spoiler’ videos were apparently too close for comfort and the HBO’s head honchos feared that they may spoil the entire show.
With all the work they put out to build a wall from what lies ahead, it would be a huge waste of effort if an obscure vlogger can easily tear it down and spill the contents. ‘Game of Thrones’ is a great show and we ought to reward HBO for letting us view it every Sunday by not patronizing the pirates.
