“Game of Thrones” fans might be getting depressed as each new episode ends up with another beloved character killed in a horrific fashion. At times like this, the show gives us something to get us through the dark pretext of the show, and that something is the awkward romance between Brienne and Tormund.
According to The Independent, the romance is more like a one-sided flirting by the wildling to the 6-foot Valyrian steel-wielding lady. For the internet, it was love at first sight as it exploded with memes, fan art, and downright disturbing edits.
Apparently, it is not just internet lurkers who fell in love with the unusual pairing. Gwendoline Christie who plays Brienne of Tarth actually loves the awkward romance between the two, especially how her character reacts to the advances of the red-bearded Tormund Giantsbane.
Christie told Entertainment Weekly that Kristofer Hivju is absolutely hilarious. The way the actor was behaving towards her was extraordinary that she could not remember a scene in “Game of Thrones” where she had to stop herself from laughing.
Gwendoline Christie apparently enjoys putting her character in an awkward position where she doesn’t want the attention. Her character’s personality was developed when she was often teased for her size and mockingly called “Brienne the Beauty.”
Well her beauty might have attracted the animalistic Tormund whose last possible love story involved a bear. Christie added that she enjoyed trying to navigate at the beauty of her character’s embarrassment. She can deal with the situation and the wildling’s advances, but she’s just so embarrassed by it.
Gwendoline Christie even went on to reveal that there’s actually a deleted scene in which Sansa teases her about her wildling suitor. There’s nothing more heartwarming than to see these two go about their romance in Castle Black like two hormonally charged teens.
Hopefully, the deleted scenes are included in the box set of season six is released. For the meantime, their romance will definitely make watching ‘Game of Thrones’ murder our favorite characters a bit more bearable.
