French Open: Day 10 Update

Day 10 updates from Roland Garros is here.

The day at Rolland Garros saw the greatest upset as 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer bowed out to his good friend Stan Wawrinka in straight sets. Federer lost 6-4 6-3 7-6. For the first time in his career, he failed to break in a Grand Slam match.

Wawrinka will now face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinals.

Tsonga edged U.S. Open finalist 5th seed Kei Nishikori 6-1 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-3. The match was stopped for 30 minutes after a horizontal metal sheet detached from a score-board of Philippe-Chatrier stadium and landed on the stands.

In the women’s singles, experience prevailed over youth as 2008 Champion Ana Ivanovic defeated Elina Svitolina 6-3 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Lucie Safarova also reached the semis blowing Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.
