It seems Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo has not ruled out a future with Scuderia Ferrari yet.
During an interview with Australia’s Sunday Age newspaper, Ricciardo had revealed that his name was among those “thrown around” during the time Ferrari was looking for another driver in case they didn’t renew Kimi Raikkonen’s contract. Now, the same rumors are going around in Formula 1 as Ricciardo, Raikkonen and Nico Rosberg face expiring contracts, according to Auto Week.
With regards to his future in Formula 1, Ricciardo admitted he would want to be “in a winning car at some point.” Furthermore, he said, “Whether one day that is Ferrari, I don’t know.” At the same time, fans may also be interested to see the 26-year-old reunited with his former teammate, four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
And while the possibility of Ricciardo having a future with Ferrari is uncertain, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg is sure that his team will be battling Ferrari for the podium when the race begins in March. Fox Sports reports that Rosberg told Le Figaro, “There are other teams that have looked good but it will come down to a fight between Ferrari and us.”
Felipe Massa’s recent interview also revealed that Williams may not be as competitive this year as they had been last season, leaving Ferrari wide open to challenge Mercedes for constructor’s points.
If the first pre-season testing in Barcelona was any indication, it seems both Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes AMG Petronas have emerged more competitive than they had been last season. Ferrari had managed to top all but one testing sessions while Mercedes did the most number of laps.
