Chicago Bull’s point guard Derrick Rose’s former girlfriend has filed a lawsuit against the NBA star accusing him of drugging and gang raping her with two friends a couple of years ago.
Derrick Rose’s representative quickly reacted on Thursday by stating that the allegations are “completely false and without any factual basis.” He also described the lawsuit as “a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete.”
Rose’s team, the Chicago Bulls, instantly issued a statement saying the team just learned about the lawsuit and doesn’t have enough facts.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time,” the team statement also clarified.
The woman called “Jane Doe,” in the lawsuit, claimed that in August 2013, Rose along with his two friends mixed drugs in her drinks while she was at home in Beverly Hills where the Bulls star resided at that time. A female friend of her helped her get back home by a cab as she was incapacitated, as per the lawsuit.
The lawsuit further claims that Rose and his friends went to her home next morning, and entering through an unlocked door, raped her in turns. The plaintiff was shocked and silenced, “ashamed and embarrassed by what had happened to her” and didn’t want her conservative family to know about the incident.
The lawsuit reads
The civic lawsuit “Jane Doe” filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court this week reveals she has some memories of that incident.
“Jane has very little recollection of the events that followed given her incapacitated state of consciousness, with a recollection of only few second flashes at a time,” the lawsuit states. “However, Jane does recall brutal details of the rape.”
On contacted by the CNN, The Beverly Hills Police Department said it first came to know of the case on Thursday through TMZ, and had no information about the allegations.
“Jane Doe” seeks unspecified damages for lost wages, mental pain and anguish and severe emotional distress.
Lisa Cohen, Rose’s representative, said the NBA player was in a “non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years,” which ended in 2013. Cohen also added that the woman had “no complaints about Mr. Rose until various lawyers began to surface and demand that the plaintiff be paid millions of dollars.”
Rose was crowned NBA’s MVP in 2011 and is one of the highest paid stars of the league. He ranks 20th in the Forbes list of world’s highest paid athletes.
