A Florida woman was taken into custody after she tried to stab a deputy with a sword or machete. The incident occurred inside a mobile home that had thousands of other bladed weapons.
The deputies were attacked when they arrived at the Brooksville home of Nickole Dykema to assist probation and parole officers in arresting her. As reported by Fox News, Dykema was watching law enforcement officers through a broken window in her home. She went deeper into her residence and refused to come out. The officers forced their way into the home once the deputies arrived at the scene. They were greeted by an armed Dykema, who was carrying a sword or a machete and almost attacked a deputy, missing him by inches. Dykema escaped into another room during negotiations.
Many of her rooms contained at least 500 bladed weapons. Armed, she refused to drop the weapons. Subsequently, deputies had to use a Taser to get her in custody. There were no injuries sustained to either any officer or Dykema.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis said, “This person was obviously dangerous to the community. It amazes me that these deputies were able to take her into custody without anyone being injured. It shows the level of their restraint and professionalism under very difficult and dangerous conditions. Had something gone wrong, it would be easy for critics to accuse them of moving too quickly or too slowly. I appreciate their willingness to deal with these very volatile situations. I know the public appreciates them as well.”
According to WKRN, Dykema has been charged with several counts of probation violation, property damage/criminal mischief, resist officer without violence and assault on an officer; and is being held without bond.
