First Couple Work To Promote Women’s Empowerment

Recently, President Donald Trump hosted a Women’s Empowerment Panel in the White House. He was joined by none other than First Lady Melania Trump.

The unique panel aimed to discuss various challenges both women and young girls in America face today. Speaking at the event were women leaders in several sectors. These include Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Small Business Administrator McMahon, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Seema Verma. Vice President Mike Pence also attended the event. Trump took the time to honor the women working in his administration.

“We want every daughter in America to grow up in a country where she can believe in herself, believe in her future, and follow her heart and realize her dreams,” the president remarked during the event. According to White House press secretary Sean Spicer, Trump has always made women’s empowerment one of his priorities. During his campaign, he openly spoke about challenges faced by female business owners. He also discussed women’s health and the need to have affordable childcare and paid family leave.

Earlier this month, President Trump held a meeting with women entrepreneurs and business leaders. Joining him were Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ivanka Trump. During the discussion, Trump said, “We must ensure that our economy is a place where women can work and thrive.”

On the other hand, the first lady honored 12 outstanding women during the recent 2017 Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Awards. All the awardees overcame injustice, ranging from environmental disasters to domestic violence. “Together, we must declare that the era of allowing brutality against women and children is over, while affirming that the time for empowering women around the world is now,” the first lady remarked.

According to a report from CNN, the first lady took the time to personally hand out the awards to the recipients. Many of the women became visibly emotional upon receiving the award from Mrs. Trump.
