After the release of Final Fantasy X and X-2, Square Enix is already starting to face the heat from the gaming community. Due to its new rules, gamers are not able to mix audio and subtitles according to their desire.
The game provides the user with Japanese and English voice options and subtitles of various languages. But unfortunately, players haven’t been provided full access to use the given options flexibly.
After the criticism, Square Enix decided to post detailed information via the Steam community which explains the new audio and subtitle restriction. According to the notes, players can choose any subtitle or language; however, if a player chooses a certain language like, say, Japanese, it will only allow Japanese subtitles. Gamers who favor English voice options will be allowed to choose subtitles in English, French, Italian, German or Spanish.
Square Enix explained in the post, “We know a lot of you have been asking whether there are dual audio options but unfortunately due to technical reasons, we’re not able to include dual audio in FFX|X-2 HD Remaster,”
Square Enix claims they cannot alter this issue due “technical reasons.” Fans are enraged and disappointed as many wish to play the game in its original context (Japanese) but would like to translate it via subtitle.
Although developers have decided not to pursue and resolve this issue, the modding community are already working on patches to rectify this problem. A Steam user has already posted a mod for “Japanese Voices with English Text.” However, fans are still hesitant as it is an unverified user. Click here to download the mod.
