Marvel Comics Iron Man creator Brian Michael Bendis has made a big revelation that has sent social media into tizzy.
Twitter users are abuzz with a colored girl Riri Williams making an entry as the superhero with her red and gold armor. At a time when Marvel fans are anxiously waiting for the release of Civil War II, Tony Stark will likely make an exit.
“One of the things Tony does to distract himself from all the things going on in his life is he goes to find this young woman who is flying around the middle of America in an armor that’s not completely made to try to find out what her deal is,” said Bendis, in an exclusive interview with Time.
Talking more about the billionaire, genius, playboy and philanthropist, the writer and creator of Marvel Comics Iron Man, added that Riri may be even better than Tony as Iron Man. According to Bendis, Iron Man himself is aware that Riri may be better than him.
Tony is in the lab and is fully aware of the fact that a student from MIT, Riri has reverse-engineered one of his old armors, in her college dorm. She made the armor from “leftover and borrowed equipment” from her campus. The 15-year-old black girl has been thrown out of MIT in the latest issue of Iron Man.
The new Marvel Comics Iron Man character Riri already made her debut in the Invincible Iron Man #7 in March. Bendi said that he has been building Riri’s character with book artist Stefano Caselli. The character has been brought in to improve the diversity of Marvel Comic female superheroes and characters, Time reports.
Marvel Comics has introduced characters to give add a touch of diversity to characters in recent years include a new Ms Marvel, Muslim teenager Kamala Khan. Besides, there is a black Latino Spider Man in the form of Miles Morales, Ms America, a Latina lesbian, The Falcon, aka new Captain America, a black hero and Jane Foster as new Thor, Wired reports.
Fans are split however aboit Riri Williams.
There is a whole host of racist comments on Twitter:
I’d be more excited about Riri Williams if the book were written by a black woman.
