The real-life “Fault in Our Stars” couple Dalton and Katie Prager are now dead after succumbing to their disease.
Dalton and Katie Prager, who were dubbed as “Fault in Our Stars” couple, both have cystic fibrosis, died five days apart.
Dalton Prager, 25, first died on September 3 in Missouri where his parents took care of him after his lung transplant in 2014, ABC said.
Katie Prager was not in her husband’s final moments before his death, as she was also in hospice care.
Meanwhile, Katie Prager passed away on Thursday at the age of 26 in her family home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
Debra Donovan, Katie Prager’s mother, confirmed her death through a Facebook post in the couple’s official page.
“Early this morning she gained her wish of being at home, in her bed, surrounded by her mom, dad, brother and her dogs, dying peacefully away from the hospital, tubes, IVs…I know Dalton was waiting with open arms,” she said.
Dalton and Katie Prager married in 2011 after meeting online. Despite having a lung transplant, Katie Prager also suffered from lumphoma and kidney failire.
In an interview with CNN, Deborah Donovan said Dalton and Katie Prager talked via Facetime before his death.
“She told him that she loved him,” Donovan said. “We don’t know if he heard her.”
The couple met online and was married in 2011. They were dubbed as the real-life “Fault in Our Stars” couple as their story resembles that of the 2014 movie about a young couple who are both dealing with cancer.
