‘Fast 8’ News: Dwayne Johnson Hints Possible Spinoff

“Fast 8” character Luke Hobbs might get his own spin-off series or movie according to actor Dwayne Johnson. The wrestler turned actor revealed on Instagram what he wants for the role and how there could be more in store for his character in the future.

According to Motor Authority, The Rock teased his character in the upcoming “Fast and Furious” movie and how he wanted to play a more serious and gritty role. During the first week of production Johnson hinted that his there might be more in store for Hobbs down the road although he also stated that there could be none at all.

Dwayne Johnson portrays Luke Hobbs, a diplomatic security service agent who allies with his Dominic (Vin Diesel) and his team after their outings in Europe and Rio.

Whatever he means “by more serious and gritty” is unclear as Hobbs is already a badass character considering his past appearances in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.

According to Johnson’s Instagram post, the possible spin-off could be a movie or a TV series, or even another Fast and Furious movie. Hobbs could even mount his motorcycle and ride into the sunset never to be seen again.

In the same post, he also stated how it was good to be reunited with his Ohana, his bud director F. Gary Gray and their home studio UNIVERSAL. He also claimed that the viewers will dig the new version of his role in “Fast 8.”

Dwayne Johnson has already suggested that the spin-off might be made for television instead of theaters. It would be interesting to see a series based on the car-oriented franchise as television spin-offs of popular movie franchises are currently the trend in the industry.

“Fast 8” will be the first film in the franchise that will not feature Paul Walker who died in a car crash on November 30, 2013. The film is set for release on April 14, 2017.
