Mods for “Fallout 4” and “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” may be good as dead if recent reports hold true. With Bethesda and Sony failing to come to an agreement, any hope for that may be as good as dead.
If so, gamers will have to console themselves with the mods that came out for Sony’s rival, Microsoft. Bethesda was able to enable mods some months ago for the Xbox One, something that hinted to a potential coming for the PS4.
While that move spurred up rumors for a PS4 mod coming, Bethesda has reportedly given up any hope of such with botched talks with Sony. Most of the dismay of the game developer can be seen via its website, summing up to the inability of both sides to come to an agreement.
Wasted Efforts by Bethesda
For Bethesda, hearing their disappointment is understandable. Knowing that enabling mods gave the games more life was something that could work for both them and Sony. Unfortunately, Sony may be wary of certain issues like compatibility, copyrights or maybe even some nudity.
Microsoft did have limitations for its end so the same could have applied to Sony as well, if not worse. Seeing that the Xbox One was able to accommodate such, could this be a point for them over the PS4 game consoles?
Was it too Risky for Sony?
While Sony did not elaborate on the failed effort, there are a lot of things to consider. The adjustments needed to accommodate mods, stability and so forth are obviously some of them.
With mods no longer coming, it gives a negative impression on how flexible Sony may be. But then again, they cannot be faulted for wanting to stick to the book, something that probably best explains why mods are not looming to be on the way for the PS4.
