Mark Zuckerburg has something big to celebrate. In fact, he has already started the celebration by posting a message on his Facebook page. According to the post, his company, Facebook, has reached yet another milestone in its history.
To the social media savvy, it will not be a surprise that Facebook has become quite big since its introduction. It is so big, in fact, that the website registered two billion monthly users recently.
This is a pretty big deal especially for an online company. To put this in perspective, the company started back in 2004. By October 2014, it reached one billion users. More than 800 million users use the website’s “Like” button everyday. That is still 220 million more than the current population of North America.
In terms of revenue, this is even bigger. Facebook has affiliates just like Google. It has advertisements from various companies. Imagine even just one advertisement being viewed by two billion users per month. Then you get the true sense of the entire picture.
Facebook has indeed become the de-facto standard for online communication. A lot of people use the website to maintain communication with their friends and relatives. The website has made it easier for people to share their experiences and their thoughts to people around the globe.
However, over the past few years, it has also become a vehicle for hate crimes and hate mongering. Bullies have also found the website as an effective tool in hitting on their targets. Not to mention as being the source of major fake news in the past few months.
On the other hand, the company is continually battling bullies and hate mongers as well as fake news leakers on the website. It has introduced various tools to let it combat the spread of both hate and fake news over the site.
