Apple confirmed its next generation iPad Air 2 during its media event this Thursday and as expected, the device was truly the center of attraction during the affair.
Almost all the rumors about the device were right on target, including the TouchID Fingerprint Sensor, the faster and more powerful A8X processor, an anti-reflective display coating, updated camera optics, the additional gold color option and the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 8.1.
The first thing users will notice about the updated device is how thin it is. Cupertino engineers were able to shave a lot from the device by fusing its three layer Retina display into one making it 18% thinner at 6.1 mm than the previous model thus Apple boasts that their new tablet is the thinnest in the world. The device still has a stunning 9.7-inch Retina display with a 2048 x 1536 resolution which translates to about 3.1 million pixels – a density of 264 pixels per inch.
Apple designed the new 64-bit A8X processor for the iPad Air 2 to deliver a whopping 40% faster increase in performance coupled with 2.5 faster graphic processing prowess. This means images will jump to life, crisp videos and movies, and games will become more enthralling when using the new iPad Air 2.
Security has always been a big concern not only for Apple but more so for users and with the addition of the TouchID Fingerprint Sensor on the updated device, users are assured that their devices as well as their precious data are safe because the key is literally in their hands (or finger, to be more specific). Using TouchID, users can easily buy books, music, movies and apps from iTunes and the App Store and with Apple Pay to be activated on Monday, online shopping will now be that much easier.
The newly improved 8 megapixel iSight Camera (f/2.4 aperture) on the iPad Air 2 brings a host of exceptional features like 120 fps slow motion and time-lapse videos, panorama, burst and timer modes for still shots. The FaceTime Camera has also been updated with an improved sensor and better low-light performance.
With a 10-hour battery life, the iPad Air 2 will be everything a user needs for both work and fun. The device will be available for pre-order online on October 17 starting at $499 for the 16GB base model.
