Good news for Manchester United fans.
Spanish giants Barcelona FC confirmed on Tuesday that Pedro has asked for release from the club, which clears Manchester United to bid for one of their prime targets this season.
The Premiership giants are yet to make a formal offer for the Spanish star but are prepared to meet £22 million release clause in Pedro’s contract. That triggered the star striker to ask for release from the reigning European champions.
Robert Fernandez, the director of Barcelona FC, confirmed that the striker has played his last game for the Catalans and is seeking release.
“Pedro has told me that he wants to leave. Right now there is nothing (no offers). Pedro’s clause is not negotiable, but this could be his last game,” said Fernandez before kick-off in Georgia.
Despite Neymar’s absence, the striker started on the bench during the Super Cup. Pedro came off the bench to score the winning goal in Barca’s thriller against Sevilla in Tbilisi in the Super Cup finals. Luis Enrique’s star-studded men sealed the game 5-4 in the extra time to add one more in their trophy room.
The Spanish International is keen on first eleven football ahead of 2016 Euro Cup.
And United boss Louis Van Gaal is looking for a suitable replacement for Argentine winger Angel Di Maria, who has left for Paris Saint Germain. That made Pedro an automatic choice for the Dutch.
Barca head-coach Luis Enrique was reluctant to leave Pedro, the only hindrance in the star forward’s decision to make a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester City, another Premiership giant, was also linked to the Spaniard during the transfer rumors.
