Spanish superstar Sergio Ramos has verbally agreed to a salary package if he lands at Manchester United, according to sources.
United has already lodged a £42 million bid for the Real Madrid centre-back. Real Madrid are considering to accept the offer as they step up their pursuit of David De Gea. United has maintained a rigid stance while negotiating with the Spanish giants this summer, insisting that De Gea will only be sold if Ramos goes the opposite way. The Spanish international will sit with Real President Florentino Perez for a fresh round of talks, according to reports.
Manager Louis Van Gaal and United officials are keen to recruit an elite defender this summer.
Chris Smalling, the regular centre-back, featuring at the heart of the Premiership giant’s defense who excelled last season under Van Gaal, has welcomed the possible arrival of Sergio Ramos citing that competition with such a class defender would boost his performance.
“I think it’s a case of where at Manchester United there’s always competition. Even when I signed the fresh terms there were five centre-backs who I had to work hard to get past.,” said the 25-year-old, who has signed a new contract with the United till 2019.
“So I always knew I was going to be compared against the best because United can always challenge for the best and I’m up for that challenge.”
