Manchester United hasn’t lived up to the expectations for this season. The Red Devils however restored some pride by winning the thriller against Arsenal last weekend. The team now is out of the championship game for the English Premier League after bowing out from the Champions League in the group stage.
Dutchman Louis Van Gaal is on a tight rope-walk. Star players have already expressed dissent against him. United is linked with Jose Mourinho, after the Portuguese exited from Chelsea earlier this season. If United fails to make it to the Champions League next season, Mourinho will automatically take charge at the Old Trafford, according to The Guardian.
United officials are behind Van Gaal also. The Dutchman used his vast experience and expertise to rejuvenate the Red Devils in the last 8 days. United notched up three wins against Midtjylland, Arsenal and Shrewsbury. The Red Devils netted 11 goals in their last three outings. So, a resurrection is on the cards which is triggered by Van Gaal’s strategy.
Are we going to see Van Gaal-Mourinho combo in Red Devils’ redemption? As of now it’s just an idea. But Mourinho has revealed a five-central defender wishlist should he sign in as United boss. The Premiership giants were plagued by injuries to the central defenders, which forced Van Gaal to field Michael Carrick at the heart of defense against Arsenal, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Mourinho eyes John Stones, Marc Bartra, Aymeric Laporte, Marquinhos or Raphael Varane as a new defensive addition for the Reds.
