The EOS lip balm is under scanners after a customer filed a lawsuit against it. The brand that is well-liked by celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus was said to be selling a balm that causes redness, dryness and blistering.
Rachael Cronin, who filed the complaint against the lip balm through lawyer Mark Geragos, said that the product made her lips bleed. She also said that it caused rashes and crack to her mouth.
The suit mentions, “(Ms. Cronin’s) lips became substantially dry and course, what Ms. Cronin describes as feeling like ‘sandpaper,’ causing her to apply more of the balm on her lip to achieve the results of becoming ‘sensationally smooth.’”
The lawsuit also states, “The message EOS is trying to mislead consumers about is clear: EOS lip balm is a daily necessity requiring constant use regardless of the actual condition of your lips to improve your health, diet, and appearance,” adding, “In reality, behind the smoke-and-mirrors, EOS is anything but smooth.”
Though the lawsuit can be damaging to the reputation of the company, fans are in support. One of the fans stated, “I have been using these since they came out in 2009, and nothing has happened to my lips. Sounds like people may have shared their EOS with someone who has a disease, and now they’re blaming EOS.”
The EOS lip balm is asked to provide correct advertisement for the product. There are no suggested descriptions mentioned in the advertisement.
