Donne’s revelation via Vogue takes a big load off her chest though she plans to keep her private life separate, an obvious move to shun off public attention. It will be interesting how she would be able to do that with the admission more than likely to draw in reporters and writers.

Elene Delle Donne burned headlines when she admitted she was gay. That admission added her to the growing mix of athletes who have come out in the open.

Donne’s revelation via Vogue takes a big load off her chest. However, she still plans to keep her private life separate, an obvious move to shun off public attention. It will be interesting how she would be able to do that with the admission more than likely to draw in reporters and writers.

Fending off attention will be easier said than done

For one thing, it will be hard to avoid the media. Aside from making waves over in Rio, Donne has a track record in basketball. She is the 2015 WNBA MVP and 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year. Even before that revelation, she was already a target of writers.

“As the future keeps moving on, I don’t plan on having our relationship out in the public and all this media on it,” she said via ESPN. “But obviously there’s excitement right now because people see it for the first time.”

Donne revealed her relationship with Amanda Clifton. She is aware of the impact it will have on both their lives. However, they are ready to make the necessary adjustments needed.

Right now her focus is to help the team win the gold, USA basketball’s sixth consecutive. With Sue Bird out, Donne will need to work in hand with the likes of Diana Taurasi, Tamika Catchings, Sylvia Fowles, Maya Moore, Brittney Griner and Breanna Stewart.

They will meet Spain in the women’s basketball final and may need muster enough support with their chief point guard out. Lindsay Whalen given the tough task of orchestrating for head coach Geno Auremmia to avoid a monumental upset.
