An elementary school teacher from Ciudad Obregon in the northern Mexican state of Sonora took home the grand prize in a twerking contest while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas. Unfortunately, when the video of the competition went viral, the 24-year-old teacher identified as Carla lost her job.
During Carla’s Holy Week vacation, she entered a twerking contest at the Mango Deck Restaurant Bar & Beach Club, a famous vacation destination at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. The Daily Mail claimed that the school teacher out-twerked other contestants and won the $260 grand prize plus the adoration of the drunken crowd.
However, according to Mexico News Daily, even before Carla’s vacation was over, the people in Ciudad Obregón got access of the competition video through instant messaging service WhatsApp. With no delay, Carla was identified by viewers in Ciudad Obregón as a preschool and elementary school teacher at a private institution.
Then things went out of control, as Carla was subjected to insults, and the elementary school teacher has been called immoral on social media.
The time Carla returned to work after her getaway, she was surprised that the school’s principal and its lawyer confronted her regarding the competition. A lot of parents had protested against Carla’s “immoral behavior,” and they asked for the teacher’s punishment.
Carla said she was forced to resign as a teacher, but she tried to defend herself. “I’m not doing anything wrong, it’s a dance competition, and participating in it does not define me as a person. I’m doing it in my free time, and this is the 21st century. There’s nothing to be scared of; I’m not naked or having sex, much less consuming drugs or disrespecting someone.”
