Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is doubling down on his anti-Muslim rhetoric on the anniversary of 9/11. Trump claimed that Muslims worldwide cheered and celebrated the attacks, the worst terrorist act in United States history.
This was not the first time the nominee accused Muslims of celebrating the tragedy. Just after the September 1, 2001, Trump said “thousands and thousands” of Muslims in Jersey City had cheered the destruction of the Twin Towers.
According to Heavy, the comment has caused so much controversy and outrage from Muslims. Not one to waste attention, Donald Trump has repeated his claims time and time again up until his bid for presidency.
Mother Jones revealed that claims were nothing more than a conspiracy theory without any supporting evidence or reports. However, this has not stopped The Donald from using it to gain the sentiments of his supporters.
Donald Trump: I Would Have Caught Bin Laden Before 9/11
The nominee also blamed then President George W. Bush for the attacks. Trump claimed that if he were in charge, he would have taken out Osama Bin Laden before he was able to carry out the attacks.
The Republican nominee claimed that he would have been tougher on terrorism. He would have also captured Bin Laden much earlier than when he was ultimately captured, long before the attacks on the World Trade Center.
In a statement to Bloomberg TV, Trump also riled up against Bush saying that it was his responsibility. ”Don’t blame him or don’t blame him, but he was president. The World Trade Center came down during his reign.” Trump said.
A New Yorker himself, Trump expressed his resilience in the face of tragedy. According to NBC, one of the real estate mogul’s quotes involved vowing to rebuild and restore the city.
Donald Trump and his “America First” platform has been well received by most conservatives, while at the same time scorned by liberals. As we remember the attacks from 15 years ago, let us also pick up the lessons to ensure that such tragedies will never happen again.
