Donald Trump Keeps Playing Golf in Between Presidential Duties

Despite making statements during his campaign that he would be too busy running the country to play golf if he were president, Donald Trump has been spotted more than once on the golf course. In fact, he just played his ninth round in seven weeks.

Donald Trump has been complaining about Barack Obama and his golf habits since 2013

Normally, a U.S. president playing golf is not exactly a big deal. However, Trump had the habit of criticizing his predecessor, Barack Obama, on his golf habits quite a lot. Trump had been tweeting about Obama and how much he likes to play golf since 2013.

Back in November 2013, Trump made a rather snide comment at then President Obama, saying, “President Obama played golf yesterday???” Then in October 2014, Trump had a targeted rant again, tweeting, “Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf. Worse than Carter.”

Trump also did not stop there and let out a few more tweets about Obama and golf. “President Obama has a major meeting on the N.Y.C. Ebola outbreak, with people flying in from all over the country, but decided to play golf!”

However, shortly after being sworn in as president, it seems that Trump himself has been spending more and more time at the golf course. According to a report from the Palm Beach Post, Trump started heading out for a round of golf on February 4. He first went to the Trump International Golf Club and was seen wearing a golfing attire. The following day, he was seen at the venue again. This time, a pool report stated that Trump “has had meetings and may play a few holes of golf.”

Trump also ended up playing the sport on February 11 when he went to Trump National Golf Club with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. They were also joined by two-time U.S. Open champion, Ernie Els. Trump visited the golf course about three more times after that.

The White House said Trump had been on a working lunch at the golf course on Saturday

Recently, he was spotted arriving at the Trump International again on Saturday. According to the White House, Trump “might hit a few balls” while he was in the club. The president ended up staying there for more than three and a half hours. His day at the golf course was reportedly captured and tweeted by The Hill.

Meanwhile, the White House has said that Trump was actually at a working lunch when he had visited the golf course. In a photo that was circulated, Trump was shown meeting with strategist Steve Bannon, press secretary Sean Spicer, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, chief of staff Reince Priebus, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

Spicer had also sent out a tweet addressing the photo by The Hill. He stated, “@POTUS met with senior members of his team to discuss #RepealAndReplace #Immigration – the picture in this tweet misleading and wrong.”

If Trump had indeed played golf on Saturday, it would mean that he plays golf once every 6.3 days. In contrast, Obama played golf every 8.8 days while he was in office.
