After making some unthinkable and perverse comments on how he is used to treating women, grounds have been laid down for Donald Trump to quit the Presidential race.
Republicans and conservatives already have a lot to deal with, what with everything that comes out of the mouth of the present Donald Trump.
Now they have been dealt the task of mopping up the mess that a certain “locker-room banter”, captured on tape, back in 2005, has recently created.
The tape in question is a conversation that takes place between Donald Trump and a former host of Hollywood Access, Billy Bush, that was secretly taped as they made their way to the sets of “Days Of Our Lives”.
The tape was leaked by The Washington Post, and their timing could not have been more perfect, what with the 2nd Presidential debate looming large.
In the tape, Trump talks about unsuccessfully courting a married woman just to have sex with her.
“And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, ‘I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture,” Trump is heard saying on the tape.
He goes on to add that he cannot resist attractive women and he starts kissing them without so much as considering the consequences.
“I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her,” Trump says. This habit of Trump was confirmed by a CNN news reporter, who said during a segment that her friend had the first-hand experience of Trump’s lewd behavior.
“And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p—y. You can do anything,” concludes Trump.
The content of the tape not only made women all across the United States gasp in horror, it also made the fraction of women who did support Trump and his campaign to completely lose faith in him.
New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte, originally a Trump supporter, said that “I cannot and will not support a candidate for president who brags about degrading and assaulting women,” reports BBC.
Senator Mark Kirk of Illinois thinks that Trump should “drop out” and “engage rules for emergency replacement”, reports Business Insider.
According to Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Mike Pence should replace Trump as the leading candidate for the Republican party in the elections after what transpired.
But a political historian at Harvard University, Alex Keyssar, came closest to the reality when he commented back in August, “I don’t think he’s going to step aside” because that is exactly what Trump plans to do.
After what can barely be described as an apology for his appalling comments, Trump made sure that the people knew that he is here to stay:
“I’d never withdraw. I’ve never withdrawn in my life,” said Trump. Hillary Clinton has fired back with “Women have the power to stop Trump”.
It will certainly be interesting to see how Trump plans to wriggle out of his latest blunder in Sunday’s Presidential debate!
