Is “Diablo 4” the next move for Blizzard Entertainment? Releasing a brand new installment of the “Diablo” franchise might be the way to go after the game’s striking absence at last year’s Blizzcon.
After the Reaper of Souls expansion, it seems that the franchise has not gotten much attention compared to their cash cow “World of Warcraft.”
John Yang and Don Vu, both significant members of the development team, have even been pulled to work on WoW’s upcoming expansion ‘World of Warcraft: Legion’.
According to Blizzpro, those who were paying close attention to Blizzard’s career page might have noticed the job openings for an unannounced project on the game’s development team Team 3. Could this unnamed project be “Diablo 4″?
The Blizzard’s career page is currently looking for Senior Character Artist, Senior Concept Artist, and Senior Character Artist, which are all key positions in a new development project.
While this might be just a new game Blizzard Entertainemnt is planning to release, it might also be a new installment to one of their many of their successful game franchises.
With the new job openings and the third installment’s development left with just a skeleton crew, an expansion is highly unlikely. Considering that the game’s lack of the trade system, a sudden increase in legendary item drops, and item-based skill power alienated many fans, starting from scratch might be a good idea.
That being said, even if they are planning to make a new game from scratch, it would take at least 4-5 years before the game is ready to be released. Within this time frame, Blizzard could possibly squeeze out an expansion pack from Team 3.
Still, ‘Diablo 4’ is still a possibility given the fact that there was barely enough mention of the franchise at least year’s Blizzcon. Consequentially, “Diablo 3” is currently expected to only release patches and minor bug fixes.
