“Deadpool 2” has been expected even before the release of the first installment. 20th Century Fox also incorporated a parody at the end of the movie that reveals Cable will be featured in the sequel. Furthermore, “Avatar” actor Stephen Lang is also in the running to become the next movie’s villain.
As reported by Slash Film, “Deadpool 2” has always been highly likely, especially since “Deadpool” dominated theaters on its first week of release. The Merc with a Mouth revealed during the after-credits parody that Mel Gibson, Keira Knightley, and Dolph Lundgren may be cast for “Deadpool 2.” However, a recent spoiler from Stephen Lang’s Twitter post shows that the “Avatar” actor is hoping to be cast as the villain, Cable, in the upcoming movie.
Other actors waiting in line to land the role were rumored to be Russell Crowe, Live Schreiber and Jon Hamm.
In other news, Collider reports that 20th Century Fox has already lodged Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese to reprise their roles as writers for “Deadpool 2,” the same duo who wrote the first installment. However, there has been no confirmation as to whether “Deadpool” director Tim Miller will reprise his role as well.
It was also hinted that “Deadpool” may expand his character further in the X-Men universe, especially since Ryan Reynolds, the lead actor in the franchise, revealed, “There’s so much material to mine in just the X-Men universe… In the future, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re really going to explore the X-Men a lot.” He added, “We’ll see. And maybe X-Force – X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in.”
At present, 20th Century Fox has not revealed the exact release date for “Deadpool 2.”
