“Deadpool 2” is already in the works with the same creative team at the helm. 20th Century Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider officially announced the return of Deadpool at the Las Vegas CinemaCon on Thursday.
From conception to creation to release “Deadpool” has created quite a buzz among movie-goers. 20th Century Fox has officially announced that Ryan Reynolds will once again play the “Merc With a Mouth” alongside director Tim Miller.
This second installment of Deadpool comes as no surprise since the movie smashed records worldwide, grossing $757.3 million globally, the highest for an R-rated film. The film undeniably put Reynolds back in the spotlight after Green Lantern underperformed in the box office.
According to USA Today, 20th Century Fox confirmed that the same team behind the comic book-inspired blockbuster will be back for “Deadpool 2” alongside Reynolds and Miller. This includes the duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the script for the first film. Reynolds who is also one of the producers of the film has long expressed his desire to build a franchise around Deadpool together with Reese and Wernick.
The plot option for Deadpool 2 has a wide array of choices to go in. Deadpool’s character has appeared in many comic books beyond his own series for decades. Cinema Blend reveals that the most popular options among fans includes a team-up with other superheroes like Cable, son of Cyclops and a powerful mutant from the future.
It is even possible for him to team up with another witty Marvel character: Spider-Man. The comedic potential between the foul-mouthed Merc and Spidey’s catchphrases are immense, says fans. All doors are currently open for this sequel.
Details about Deadpool 2’s storyline and its release date are currently vague, although with the same creative team working on this sequel, it’s definitely something to look out for.
