If you are in to zombies, mountains and open-world gameplay, you might want to read about Sony’s upcoming action-adventure game Days Gone. If it’s your first time learning about the title, then you’ve come to the right place.
Days Gone is a third-person shooter with survival and horror elements. It stars a motorcycle-riding anti-hero and set in the High Desert of the Pacific Northwest.
On the official PlayStation blogsite, SIE Bend Studio creative director Ron Allen differentiated Days Gone from the open-world games that have come before it. Usually, players draw danger to themselves. In Days Gone, there is danger in every corner of the game map.
The game is cut from the same cloth as The Last of Us and Left 4 Dead. It is filled with post-apocalyptic themes, cool weaponry and crafting. What sets it apart is its story-telling, which centers around protagonist Deacon St. John.
“It’s about the human condition. This guy’s a broken man,” Allen said, about what gamers can expect from St. John. “Because Deacon has suffered so much loss he holds on to that aspect of his past, and cherishes those relationships. It’s about him finding himself, because he no longer has his motorcycle gang.”
KTVZ caught up with the rest of the creative team behind Days Gone. One of Allen’s colleagues, Chris Reese, said players from Central Oregon would recognize some elements of the game. Meanwhile, game director Jeff Ross described Days Gone as a mix between The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy.
Sony introduced Days Gone during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo back in June . The game is being developed by the Unreal Engine 4 and went into full production in January 2015.
There’s still no official word if Days Gone will be a timed-exclusive on PS4 or if it will also release on Xbox One or Microsoft Windows. Sony did promise it will be announcing more details about the game soon.
