What is in the offing for the Dallas Cowboys after the second pre-season game?
Daryl Johnston, former Dallas Cowboys fullback and current NFL analyst weighed in the team’s upcoming performance.
“I think this defense is gonna be better than people give it credit for. I really do,” he told in a podcast interview with SportsDay’s Evan Grant and Barry Horn.
However, he sees positivity on Rod Marinelli who will likely save the team.
“He’ll have some things that he’ll use those first four, five weeks of the season that won’t be a part of the defense later on.”
Johnston also said Rod Marinelli has the ability to “get the most out of guys, even more than they think they’re willing to give or that they’re able to do.”
“I think he’s gonna do that. I think he’s got those kind of guys up front,” he said.
Johnston also predicted that they Dallas Cowboys will be strong in the inside to tackle the position, as well as their back end.
While Johnston thinks Byron Jones is locked in at safety, Morris Claiborne’s might get the limelight of his paying year for Dallas since he moved at No. 6.
Johnston knows Orlando will step up to his game this year as he “got that swagger.”
He said, “Dallas was just flat emotionally because they didn’t have Orlando on defense and Dez [Bryant] was in and out of the lineup on the offensive side of the ball. So the two guys that are your emotional heart and soul on each side of the ball were not there last season the way they normally are.”
