Lead vocalist of country band Backroad Anthem, Craig Strickland, was found dead after he and his friend went missing a week. The country singer was out duck hunting when a powerful winter storm struck the area. He was found lying on his back in the shape of a cross.
Backroad Anthem’s Craig Strickland and his buddy Chase Morland went duck hunting at Kaw Lake, Tulsa last December 27. Unfortunately, a winter storm hit the area and the two were reported missing since then.
A search party looked for the pair. Morland’s body was found from the lake last week by troopers. However, it was only Monday when Strickland’s body was recovered.
According to USA Today, Miss Arkansans and wife of the country singer, Helen Strickland, took to Twitter and announced that his husband’s remains finally surfaced.
#CraigStrickland was found today. He is safe with his Father in Heaven. Thank you Lord for leading us to him today. I will praise you, Amen.

Since the incident, it was reported that severe storms have wreaked havoc in the area, causing five deaths in Oklahoma and more than 100 injured. When asked about the weather situation and the corresponding casualties, Kay Country Sheriff Everette VanHoesen said, “It’s a big lake, and when we have high winds, the lake will get whitecapped; the waves get pretty big.” He added, “I understand these men were avid hunters. They knew what they were doing, but sometimes the size of our lake really tricks them.”
In other news, CNN reported that Strickland’s dog, Sam, who went with the two while hunting, survived the incident.
When Craig Strickland’s body was assessed, it was determined that he drowned after this boat capsized. Backroad Anthem members posted on Facebook, “[Strickland] fought his way from the water to a hill and was lying in the shape of a cross on his back.”
