Shortly after the news about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the National anthem before an NFL football game broke, there were reports that he converted into Islam two months ago and that is the real reason that played behind the move. It has also been reported that the NFL star is engaged to a Muslim Black Lives Matter activist called Nessa Diab, and it is for her that he went through the conversion.
Kaepernick created a major controversy by refusing to stand for the National Anthem before an NFL football game. While he explained his stance saying it was a form of protest against the racial injustices that take place in the country, the disrespect he showed for the National Anthem drew criticisms from all quarters.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Colin Kaepernick was quoted as saying by the Atlantic. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
According to a report by the Info Wars, the NFL star never donated anything for the cause that he is citing as a reason behind his decision to disrespect the National Anthem that outraged the country. The website also claimed that in his childhood he was adopted by a white family after his black family abandoned him.
Snopes.com reported that two images of Kaepernick, one of which showed him wearing a black t-shirt bearing the symbol of the Islamic State and another showing him after converting to Islam are being circulated. However, these images are fake and have been edited.
Colin Kaepernick, has not said anything about his alleged conversion and his explanation to remain seated while the National Anthem was being played did not include religion.
