Cleveland Cavaliers Vs San Antonio Spurs: Kawhi Leonard Wills Spurs to 99-95 Win

Cleveland Cavaliers Vs. San Antonio Spurs: Spurs lead Cavs 13-11 with 5:39 left in the first quarter. The Spurs’ home streak of 31 wins is in danger tonight.

Cleveland Cavaliers Vs San Antonio Spurs: Kawhi Leonard, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, proved his value once again Thursday as the Spurs defeated the Cavaliers 99-95 to win their 32nd consecutive home game.

Leonard finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks as the Spurs out-scored Cavs 55-45 in the second half to seal the victory. The Cavs had asserted an early 32-20 lead in the first quarter before Leonard anchored the Spurs fightback. |Box Score|

For the Cavs, Tristan Thompson had a monster night with 18 points and 14 rebounds. LeBron James had 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists the Cavs had their eight-game winning streak snapped by Tim Duncan and his Spurs.

Tony Parker had another productive night with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Spurs’ last loss at home came against the Cavaliers on March 12 last year when Kyrie Irving scored an NBA season-high and career-high 57 points in a 128-125 overtime victory. However, Irving was limited to just 16 points on 6-for-16 shooting this time.

The heavyweight battle at the AT&T Center was a preview to June’s NBA Finals, according to several pundits. The game lived up to the hype as the Spurs played lockdown defense in the second half to pull things back.

Spurs took took an 85-75 lead in the final quarter behind a 13-2 run fueled by role players David West, Danny Green and Patty Mills. It was very reminiscent to the way they defeated the LeBron James-led Miami Heat back in the 2014 finals.
