While fans have been used to seeing Channing Tatum doing his crazy dance moves, they can look forward to a new him with his upcoming role as a mermaid in the remake of Disney’s “Splash.”
What could be his fans’ reaction upon knowing this? Were they shocked or ecstatic about the idea of seeing the 36-year-old actor in a mermaid suit?
The film’s original version was released in 1984 with Tom Hanks playing the lead character named Allen Bauer who as a kid was saved by a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) from drowning.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the return of the project on the big screen 20 years later will be presenting an interesting twist.
In the upcoming “Splash” remake, Channing Tatum will be the mermaid with Jillian Bell as the youngster who was once portrayed by Hanks.
The husband of Jenna Dewan Tatum and the 32-year-old actress have already worked together in the past via the action-comedy film “22 Jump Street.”
Apart from becoming one of the main cast members of “Splash,” Channing Tatum is also set to produce it along with his partners in Free Association, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran, and Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.
In the meantime, followers of the actor, who had his breakthrough role in the 2006 film “Step Up,” shared their views on his upcoming portrayal of a mermaid.
Were they disgusted about it?
“CHANNING TATUM WILL PLAY A BEAUTIFUL MERMAID IN A GENDERSWAPPED REMAKE OF SPLASH THIS IS WHY FEMINISM WAS INVENTED,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
Another fan pointed out that “……… but like I’M TOTALLY OKAY WITH MAKING EVERY MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRL MOVIE AGAIN, except with Channing Tatum as the mermaid.”
Meanwhile, some shared that they are excited and delighted to see Channing Tatum as a mermaid in the anticipated new Disney film, the “Splash” remake.
