‘Castle’ Cancelled, Stana Katic Beckett Stays Alive On Season 8 Finale?

‘Castle’ cancelled — how sad is that? After fans clamored and ranted against the possibility of Stana Katic’s character Katie Beckett dying to pave way for Season 9, ABC finally decided to just cancel the show. Does this mean Beckett will stay alive?

TV Line reported that “Castle” has been axed after eight seasons. Reprotedly, this was because of the “firestorm” that erupted after leading lady Stana Katic’s confirmed ouster.

Interestingly, just a day before this announcement, there were news that ABC Studios have been closing new one-year contracts with Nathan Fillion, Jon Huertas, and Seamus Dever for “Castle’s” Season 9.

There were even reports that the new season will have 13 episodes.

It seems the decision was swiftly made, without thought of what is going to happen to “Castle” Season 8 finale, because as reported by  Celeb Dirty Laundry, two versions of it have been filmed.

One of the versions is in light of the dire possibility that the show will be cancelled. Unfortunately, it happened.

The report added that there were two versions filmed because they are not sure on how to make Katic’s character exit the show. Presumably, one of these versions will have Beckett die so that Season 9 can happen with Katic. With the show cancelled, there is a high possibility that Beckett will stay alive.

Hawley in an interview with Entertainment Weekly admitted that Katic might die on “Castle” Season 8 finale. “There is death in every episode of Castle,” Hawley said. Pressed though if it is Katic or other main characters, Hawley refused to disclose more details. “We don’t want to get into that too much. There’s definitely danger.”

She then added that the alternate ending would probably have no deaths and loose ends tied. But this means there will be no more Season 9. “If we hear that we’re not coming back, we have shot something that we can put at the end of the episode as a way to put a button on everything,” Hawley said.

“Obviously that would be a bad thing because it would mean no more. We did it in order to try to protect the fans, because you can’t end the series on a cliffhanger.” Fellow showrunner Terence Paul Winter added, “The hope is that it never sees the light of day.”
