Speaking at a Marvel event, the Russo brothers have confirmed the highly anticipated Captain Marvel character will be featured in either of the two parts of Avengers: Infinity War.
The Wrap previously reported that Marvel was looking for a director for the Captain Marvel movie. However, there has been a rumor floating around that the director and the lead actress share the same first name; and that the one to play the lead character is someone who has been rumored before.
Although the production for the Captain Marvel movie was initially announced in 2014, its release date was postponed from July 2018 to March 2019 to incorporate Ant-Man and the Wasp into the Marvel calendar. In addition, the release dates for Black Panther and Inhumans (which was recently removed) were also pushed back, as reported by Paste Magazine.
Marvel president Kevin Feige had previously said that the director and the lead star of Captain Marvel will be revealed by the studio by summer or fall. According to Screen Crush, one of the theories based on the rumor – that the director and the lead star sharing the same name – suggests Emily Blunt. Nicole Perlman – one of the co-writers of Captain Marvel, along with Meg LeFauve – followed filmmaker Emily Carmichael on Twitter. Carmichael recently shared a picture on Instagram which she initially captioned, “On my way to a Disney meeting” (the caption was changed soon thereafter).
Kathryn Bigelow has also been rumored to direct the Captain Marvel movie with Kathryn Winnick starring in the lead role.
With Feige making it official that a Captain Marvel movie is forthcoming, there should more concrete news about the rumors in the recent future.
