One of the most famous paintings by Vincent van Gogh is “The Bedroom.” It depicts a simple, idyllic life in Southern France during the 19th century. The good news is you can actually experience living inside this painting just by renting a room on Airbnb.
It’s easy to find this masterpiece-turned-living accommodation. After all, it’s called “Van Gogh’s Bedroom,” which is now attracting visitors from all over. The room is in Chicago and is situated 10 blocks from the Art Institute of Chicago. The idea to recreate one of Van Gogh’s paintings and have people rent it out is part of the Institute’s campaign to publicize Van Gogh’s upcoming exhibition.
The description of the place also readily displays the rate of the room, reading something Van Gogh would’ve written himself. It reads, “I’m charging $10 for no other reason than that I need to buy paint.” The room can easily accommodate two guests, although the bed type is only described as a “Real Bed.” There is one bathroom as well as a kitchen. And because this is not Southern France or the 19th Century, there is heating, air conditioning, television and an elevator in the building. Added modern comforts include a washer, dryer and an internet connection. The room is also said to have a “laptop friendly workspace.”
At the same time, it has also been rated “family/kid friendly.” Meanwhile, as far as safety features go, Van Gogh’s Bedroom is equipped with a smoke detector. In order to stay in Van Gogh’s Bedroom, guests will be required to sign a waiver first. So far, however, the room is completely booked for the month of February.
Meanwhile, the Van Gogh’s Bedrooms exhibition will run in the Regenstein Hall in the Art Institute of Chicago from Valentine’s Day until May 10. There will also be a Member Preview from February 12 to 13.
