Body Found In Freezer Bought For $30

It’s the last thing you would expect from a freezer you bought from your neighbor for a price of $30: a body of a woman who may have been dead for quite some time.

This is exactly what happened to one woman in Goldsboro, North Carolina when she decided to purchase a deep freezer from her neighbor for just $30. She was told not to open it because the said freezer was being used as a “time capsule” as part of a class project her neighbor was supposedly doing with her church for Sunday School class.

“A church was supposed to come, pick up the items inside the freezer. I was supposed to get the freezer back,” she explained. But no one from the church ever came. The woman then decides to open her new freezer. That is when she made the horrific discovery.

According to a report from WNCN, the woman had kept the deep freezer in her apartment at 1723 B Holly Street for three weeks before she had decided to open. Soon as she did, she found what appeared to be parts of a dead body and called 911. She told the dispatcher, “I have a serious problem. My neighbor sold me a deep freezer. I just opened it and there’s a body in there I think. I am freaking out.”

Police have since confirmed that it was human remains that the woman had found in her newly bought freezer. The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Officer had also positively identified the remains as belonging to a woman.

The woman’s cause of death was said to be natural without any indication of foul play. According to the Goldsboro Police Department, the body also remained intact and was not dismembered.

They are now withholding the identity of the body until her family has been notified. As of the moment, the crime being investigated is concealing or failing to notify the death of a person. This crime is a Class I felony.

The woman who found the body believes the body belongs to her neighbor’s elderly mother who had been living with her daughter for years. The woman had not seen her neighbor’s mother since September. On the day that the neighbor sold the freezer, she told the woman she was leaving town to be with her mother who at a nursing home.

For the woman, the neighbor’s claims make the circumstances even more bizarre. “She sold me her frozen mother for $30. How do you do something like that?” the woman exclaimed.
