Blackberry has announced a new low-cost smartphone exclusive to Indonesia called the Blackberry Z3 Jakarta Edition and will begin selling the device to customers on May 15, 2014.
The new device, built exclusively for Indonesia where Blackberry still has a strong presence, features a 5-inch display with a screen resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, a 5-megapixel rear camera capable of 1080p HD video recording, a 1.1-megapixel fixed-focus front-facing camera that supports 720p video recording, 8GB of internal storage, and expandable storage support via a microSD card up to 32GB.
The Blackberry Z3 Jakarta Edition is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8230 dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and a 2500mAh battery which gives users up to 15.5 hours of talk time. Connectivity-wise, the Z3 Jakarta Edition supports single-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n as well as Bluetooth 4.0.
The Blackberry Z3 Jakarta Edition will run on the company’s Blackberry 10 OS and is equipped with the company’s suite of security features. Users will also be able to download a slew of content exclusive to Indonesia and the Z3 Jakarta Edition including a set of BBM Stickers of The Punakawan, a cast of local characters by Indonesian illustrator Susilo Saptoady.

The new BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition will be available at all BlackBerry Lifestyle stores in Indonesia as well as authorized partners for BlackBerry Z3, PT. Teletama Artha Mandiri (TAM) and PT. Mitra Telekomunikasi Selular (MTS) for an expected price of IDR 2,199,000. To commemorate the launch of the Indonesia-exclusive smartphone, Blackberry is also offering a limited edition model with “Jakarta” inscribed on the back of the device.
